Brighton assistant head coach Billy Reid on his new feature film role

Brighton head coach Graham Potter has got a reputation for doing things a little differently but it seems that’s nothing compared to his long-time assistant Billy Reid. The 56-year-old Scot has taken an acting part in a brand new feature film about the life span of Brighton-born Mercedes Gleitze, the very first woman to successfully swim the channel.
„I believed it had been a bit of a wind up at first,“ Reid informs Sky Sports. „I told my wife and my two sons and they laughed at me. ‚What is he getting into now?‘ But it’s all fantastic fun. Why not give it a try? I am not clued up on the film business but it’s an intriguing project see how it works. It is a chance to put something back into the neighborhood, you understand.“
The chance came when he was contacted a picture director by Elliott Hasler and Brighton holder. „I had been intrigued from the letter I purchased and we had a couple of discussions on the telephone,“ explains Reid. „He’s certainly fully concentrated on what he wishes to achieve and if I can help him along the way then I need to do that.“
The Letters of Charlie, hasler film, was showcased in the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and he’s got high hopes for Vindication Swim. As for the role of Reid, Hasler has cast him pub landlord. „He should have seen some pictures,“ laughs Reid. „I do have a few lines. It isn’t just a movie career but it’s simply another interesting thing for me to participate with.“
The affable Reid’s only stipulation was that the function should not impact on his job with Brighton however that won’t be an problem. Within the span of a couple of hours in the spring, he can film his scenes after a costume fitting. It is simply the latest left-field relocation by a coaching team that have made a habit out of taking themselves out of the comfort zone.
Potter established a’civilization academy‘ in Sweden during his stint using Ostersunds part of a trip where he took the team to the knockout phases of contest. Perhaps most famously, Potter and his team put on a performance of the ballet Swan Lake back in 2015.
Reid, who combined Potter after eight years in charge of Hamilton Academical in 2013, had his own rap regular in another show and had a part in that creation.
„My five years that there were a real eye-opener in terms of team bonding and also the jobs we did there,“ he states. „I had been fairly profoundly involved and it just seemed to grow legs with larger and bigger crowds every year. They were fantastic for doing and discovering about yourself.
„This was an intriguing thing. We would do these workshops as, believe us, we were not all good at all these things that are different, and it would be the players visiting the coaching team out of their comfort zone. Sometimes though it are the training team visiting the players out of the comfort zone. However, you would then watch them progress.

„I always consider two particular lads we’d there called Ronald Mukiibi and Gabriel Somi. Both of these lads would not step across the line to sing throughout the singing undertaking. But the job went and as they started to get into it and by the show’s close , in my opinion, they were the two greatest men in the show.
„I found that really interesting. They hadn’t ever done it before and could likely never have tried it. But they came out of their comfort zone and became the stars of this show.“
Team bonding has been that the driving principle behind those jobs but that was an example of the messages that players could take from it try things with what you’re able to achieve, and you might surprise yourself. Ostersunds did that and, following an encouraging year in Potter Swansea and Reid want to consider that ethos into the Premier League.
Starting up with a 3-0 win against Watford, fans were quick to adopt the new coaching team following a period that was challenging . „We’re certainly trying to express ourselves onto the football field with our type of play and the players have bought into it,“ adds Reid. „We are just excited about continued to develop the players.
„The infrastructure of this soccer club has blown me away concerning the training facilities, the stadium as well as the ambition of this chairman. I am just really pleased to be part of the.“
Reid, obviously, will have a part to perform.
