Paul Pogba crucial to Manchester United success this season, says Denis Irwin

Denis Irwin believes Manchester United’s hopes of a successful year rest on the back of Paul Pogba.
Even the France World Cup midfielder ended last year as top goalscorer for United with 13 goals, while also topping the standings for most assists with nine.
Former United defender Irwin insists Pogba has a attitude which is critical for Ole Gunnar’s Solskjaer’s side to improve on their sixth place finish last season.
„There’s not too many gamers of Paul’s quality,“ Irwin explained. „He’s got lots of players in front of him who have great speed and I believe he has the comprehension of being able to select a fantastic pass.
„We need consistency from him but moving forward now and particularly where we’ve started dominating games he’s likely to become a big, big player for us.
„I believe every team requires a risk taker but I consider him and believe he’s the one that can unlock doors.
„We have created enough opportunities to win games so he’s going to be extremely significant for all of us.“
United have picked up four points from their opening five matches, leaving them in place heading into the international break.
They were forced to settle for a draw off at Southampton on Saturday, leaving them without a win since their opening day thrashing over Chelsea.
Irwin is convinced his side are heading in the ideal direction and states that fans need to accept the procedure will take some time.
„I understand that we’ve only picked up two points from three matches but it feels like we ought to have a lot more,“ Irwin added.
„We might need to take a small bit of patience and also we may not challenge the initial two this year but surely we need to maintain there and better than annually.
United will probably be sweating on the fitness of summertime registering Aaron Wan Bissaka, who was forced to withdraw from England’s squad on Tuesday with a spine injury.
The 21-year-old has impressed because his #50m move and Irwin believes Wan Bissaka and summertime improvement Harry Maguire will bolster a United defence that conceded last year to 54 goals.
„His design sense looks really, really good,“ Irwin explained.
„That is a huge surprise for someone who has been a winger for ages. He has got a lot to understand clearly but he’s been a huge plus this season.
„We will need to begin keeping clean sheets but I believe we have started making steps in the right direction in assisting in our defensive work, I really do.“
