Paul Pogba crucial to Manchester United success this season, says Denis Irwin

Denis Irwin believes Manchester United’s hopes of a successful year rest on the shoulders of Paul Pogba.
Even the France World Cup winning midfielder ended last year with 13 goals as leading goalscorer for United, while also topping the standings for most assists with eight.
Former United defender Irwin insists Pogba includes a attitude which is vital for Gunnar’s Solskjaer’s side to improve last year.
„There isn’t too many players of Paul’s quality,“ Irwin stated. „He has plenty of players in front of him who have great pace and I think he’s got the comprehension of being able to pick a great pass.
„We need consistency out of him sometimes but moving forward now and particularly where we have started dominating games he’s likely to become a big, big player for us.
„I think every team requires a risk taker but I look at him and believe he’s the one that can unlock doors.
„We have created enough opportunities to win matches so he is likely to be vitally important for all of us.“
United have picked up four points from their opening five games, leaving them in position heading into the worldwide break.
They were forced to settle for a draw off at Southampton on Saturday, leaving them without a win since their opening day thrashing over Chelsea.
But, Irwin is convinced that his side that is former states and are currently heading in the perfect direction that fans need to accept the process will take some time.
„I know that we have only picked two points up from three games but it seems like we need to have a lot more,“ Irwin added.
„We may need to accept a little bit of patience and we might not challenge the top two this year but we need to maintain there and greater than last year.
United will be sweating on the fitness of summer signing Aaron Wan Bissaka, that had been made to withdraw with a back injury from England’s group on Tuesday.
The 21-year-old has amazed because his #50m go from Crystal Palace, and Irwin considers summer inclusion Harry Maguire and Wan Bissaka will bolster a United defence which accelerates last year to 54 goals.
„His positional sense appears really, really good,“ Irwin said.
„That is a massive surprise for somebody that’s been a winger for ages. He has got a great deal to understand but he’s been a huge plus this year.
„We need to start keeping clean sheets but I think we’ve started making steps in the perfect direction in helping in our defensive job, I truly do.“
