Steven Gerrard pleased by Steven Davis and referee’s assistant in Rangers win

Rangers director Steven Gerrard hailed skipper Steven Davis and also the referee’s assistant at St Johnstone following Sunday’s 4-0 triumph.
Northern Ireland skipper Davis pulled on the strings in midfield and popped up with an essential if controversial clearance seconds before replacement Jermain Defoe captured first of a brace to seal the rout.
Saints rarely looked after procuring an initial win of the effort but midfielder Murray Davidson thought he’d caught a late lifeline until Davis scooped the ball to the hands of goalkeeper Allan McGregor- Defoe then immediately notched his first goal to put the result beyond doubt.
„People will discuss the goal-line clearance but in the angles I’ve seen it’s not a goal,“ Gerrard said.
„It was not a target. Steven did on two occasions and I thought he had been man of the game by some space. I thought he was outstanding.
„The linesman deserves credit for getting that one right because it could have been a big moment.
„It might have put us under pressure on but with our all-round program I believed we totally deserved the clean sheet“
Gerrard was delighted to see his side moving through the gears.
„First half we did OK and got to some really good locations. But we did not have much quality and it n’t connected in the final third. This was why we did not create,“ the former England midfielder said.
„We had one great opportunity with Alfredo however we need to attempt and create more.
„After the break we found our level of functionality. We were outstanding at the
Second half“
Rangers were fired by morelos ahead and Gerrard is hoping his talisman has cleaned his act up after the disciplinary problems of last season.
„Alfredo deserved that goal for his endeavour and want. Against a different type of opposition on Thursday against Feyenoord he had been unplayable.
„He is in great location, he is enjoying his football and he’s behaving himself. He shook the referee by the hand on the way off so he’s definitely trying!
„He is a match-winner and I am really delighted with him.
„His overall game was top drawer and it is why he has been known as to the Colombian group (for next month’s friendlies). I hope he has selected.“
