Aymeric Laporte absence is not a worry, insists Man City boss Pep Guardiola

Pep Guardiola played down concerns within Aymeric Laporte’s absence after Norwich took complete benefit of defensive frailties to overcome Manchester City 3-2 at Carrow Road.??
Without the wounded Laporte, who is out until the new year after knee surgery, the City back-line weren’t up to scratch because the Canaries conducted out shock winners, live on Saturday Night Football.
Goals from Kenny McLean along with Todd Cantwell had the side deservedly forward until Sergio Aguero pulled a goal back.
But, together with Kevin De Bruyne surprisingly only called a substitute, the much-anticipated comeback never materialised because Teemu Pukki added a third after awful defending from Nicolas Otamendi.
A late strike from Rodri was consolation for the visitors, who suffered their first defeat of the year to give a lead at the summit to Liverpool.
Otamendi and john Stones only began three times but Guardiola dismissed suggestions his side finally have a weakness.
The Catalan told Sky Sports:“It’s a venture which has played with a lot. We have got Fernandinho and Rodri that can perform there in circumstances and it’s not a concern. Things occur.
„We didn’t expect the injury and in over three decades collectively John and Nicolas have performed together, and thanks to them we’ve won.
„Laporte is now injured and Kompany is now in Anderlecht, and so we cannot just analyse it off one game. We will need to improve on that and hopefully we can do better.“
Having hauled the deficit back, Otamendi and Stones lived one mix-up as Pukki raced onto a ball, only to skew his shot wide – but seconds made amends.
Stones rolled the ball to the border of the box to Otamendi and also as the dallied, lay about the sixth goal of the effort of Pukki and Emiliano Buendia nipped in to steal possession.
Guardiola slumped to his knees after the blow off, however, bullishly included:“I know what we are as a team, I understand what we’ve achieved and I know what we will do .
„I really like my players, it is a pleasure and an honor to be together, but it is a struggle at the highest level. We cannot expect to reach 90 points over and to win every time.
„We’re going to need to recover, we visit Europe today, and then we’ll come back.
„We knew the caliber of Norwich and we have had a whole great deal of days to work on it. Conceding goals is part of football, and in the long run we pushed a great deal, but I must congratulate Norwich.“
Jamie Redknapp told Sky Sports:“The Laporte lack is your story at this time, make no mistake of it. I felt that in the summer, after dropping Vincent Kompany, they had to recruit.
„Matthijs De Ligt went to Juventus and he had the profile of everything Town like to purchase, Harry Maguire moved to Man Utd and it was unusual for them because their recruiting is usually spot on.
„You can not foresee an accident like Laporte’s when he is out for six weeks, but you have to be ready for every eventuality. Right now, it’s looking as though it could cost them.“
